Yttrium Metal

What is Yttrium Metal?

Yttrium (Y) is a soft, silvery-metallic transition metal with atomic number 39, belonging to Group 3 of the periodic table and classified as a rare earth element (though it is more abundant than tin). It is found in rare-earth mineral deposits alongside lanthanides and is used in the production of yttrium-aluminum garnet (YAG) lasers, phosphors for color television and LED displays, high-temperature superconductors (YBa₂Cu₃O₇), and as an alloying agent to improve the strength of aluminum and magnesium alloys.
