What is Ion?
An ion is an atom or molecule that has gained or lost one or more electrons, giving it a net positive or negative electric charge. Positively charged ions are called cations; negatively charged ions are called anions. Ions are formed during ionic bonding, in solution (electrolytes), and in plasma states. Ion pairs are held together by electrostatic (Coulombic) attraction.
