Half Cell

What is Half Cell?

A half-cell is one of the two components of an electrochemical cell, consisting of an electrode in contact with an electrolyte solution, in which a half-reaction of either oxidation or reduction takes place. The two half-cells of a galvanic cell are connected by a salt bridge that allows ion flow while preventing the solutions from mixing. The standard electrode potential of a half-cell is measured relative to the standard hydrogen electrode.
