Sublimation

What is Sublimation?

Sublimation is the direct transition of a substance from the solid phase to the gas phase without passing through the liquid phase, at pressures below the substance's triple point. Dry ice (solid CO₂) sublimes at atmospheric pressure. Iodine can also be purified by sublimation. The reverse process (gas to solid) is called deposition (or reverse sublimation). Sublimation is used to purify substances and create freeze-dried products.
