What is Saturated Solution?

A saturated solution is a solution that contains the maximum amount of solute that can dissolve at a given temperature and pressure. Any additional solute added to a saturated solution will remain undissolved. At saturation, the rate of dissolution equals the rate of crystallisation (dynamic equilibrium). Heating a saturated solution generally allows more solute to dissolve; cooling can cause precipitation.
