Polymer

What is Polymer?

A polymer is a large molecule (macromolecule) composed of many repeating structural units called monomers, connected by covalent bonds. Polymers can be natural (proteins, cellulose, DNA) or synthetic (polyethylene, nylon, polystyrene). Addition polymers form from monomers containing double bonds; condensation polymers form with the elimination of a small molecule (usually water). Polymer properties depend on molecular weight, structure, and degree of cross-linking.
