What is Lanthanides?

The lanthanides (or lanthanoids) are a series of 15 metallic elements with atomic numbers 57 (lanthanum) to 71 (lutetium), corresponding to the filling of the 4f electron subshell. They are part of the f-block and are also known as rare earth metals. Lanthanides are used in powerful permanent magnets (neodymium magnets), phosphors for LED displays, catalysts, and superconductors.
